That is a intense trade.

they should hit traded whatever 1 added likewise marion same alando or patrician or mayhap diaw could u envisage having stoudomire (at PF), Shaq (at C), and Marion (at SF) thats a distinction up i conceive could oppose with boston.

  • phoenixscanner1 says:

Awful move. Destroys the run and gun offense, and shaq is just plain worn down. His body is injured from years of abuse, and he will spend too much time on the bench. I can just imagine the team already back on offense setting up a shot and they look back and shaq is back at the other end strolling back all the time. Dumb.

  • jdog5701 says:

I think it was a great trade. Yes Shawn is a good player but the Suns needed a strong inside defensive presence as well as a veteran who’s gone all the way before and Shaq gives them both. I commend the Suns for making the deal.

  • what? says:

the suns for the past few years have never gotten to the western conference finals because teams like san antonio beat them. getting shaq allows phoenix to match up better against them. against good teams with good big men like utah, houston, LA, etc….shaq wont slow down their pace because they dont need shaq to run a fast break. they dont need shaq to shoot a bunch of jumpers within 10 seconds. when you get to the playoffs points become harder to score. a fast paced team has never really succeeded. getting shaq will help them when they have to slow down or when other teams force them to slow down.
plus having shaq and amare at the same time makes it very hard for the opposition to get rebounds and easy layups. and it makes amare much less foul prone.
the suns got shaq for the playoffs, not the regular season. they wont even need shaq until the playoffs, so theyll play him less and ask him to ice everything, rehab, get fit, and get ready for the playoffs. the suns are an old team. all their main guys except barbosa and amare are in their 30s. if the suns dont win a ring now, they wont win one for a long time. thats why they got shaq, for the playoffs and to deal with teams with big men.
shaq isnt stupid he knows he aint the same, thats why he wont care if he gets a bunch of touches as long as he wins. winning cures everything. he has already told nash, that he wont let him down. shaq at this point wont be selfish and will be a team player especially since he is now on a winning team.
besides marion is a free agent and would have left anyway. so might as well get something for him.

the suns kind of have nothing to lose at this point. its win a ring or nothing. everyone except stoudemire and barbosa are old. marion would have left anyway. so might as well see what you can do, maybe shaq will help them. in any event, its better than standing pat since the suns never get to the finals anyway, lets try something new.

  • BIG SPACE says:

good trade shaq is the most dominating big man ever

  • Chicken_Wing__ says:

The big Shaqtus, now residing in Phoenix.

  • Topher says:

I didn’t like the trade until I found out that how they are going to use Shaq. They plan of using him basically for defense and rebounding, both qualities he is still capable of doing. They can still do their run and gun style offense, but have to resort to half court more which Shaq will make better. Whenever the Suns use the pick and roll, Shaq will be a lil harder to stop going to the rim unlike Amare. This deal also frees up Amare from having to play center by moving him to power forward and this might where he gets even more explosive. O’Neal also said that he is ok with playing as the 3rd or 4th option, which shows you how much he wants that 5th ring. Also, when the Suns get into the playoffs and face teams like Utah, San Antonio, and LA Lakers, Shaq will be used as to match up with the teams other centers, who he can stop defensively and could dominate offensively.

  • Dmel says:

yes i agree. shaq has gotten to old to run with the sun’s offense. if he tries to run like them, he will end his career sooner than expected because he’s just not capable of running like the suns

  • Goddess says:

it was a bad trade for the suns, suns had it going for them now shaq gonna ruin that

  • Ciara L says:

I THINK THAT THIS IS A GREAT TRADE THIS REALLY HELPS OUT AMARE IT MOVES HIM TO THE PF AND HE WONT HAVE TO BE GUARDING THE “BIG MEN” IMAGIN AMARE AND SHAQ ON THE SAME TEAM ONE OF THEM IS GOIN TO HAVE TO GET DOUBLED WICH BY THE WAY LEAVES NASH, BARBOSA AND BELL OPEN FOR 3S

AND HALF OF YOU PEOPLE ON HERE ACT LIKE SHAWN MARION WAS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN RUN ON THE FASTBREAK HELLO? NOT EVERYONE ON THE SUNS TEAM WIEGHS 325 POUNDS AND ITS NOT LIKE SHAQ IS PLAYING WITH SG (DWAYNE AND KOBE) HES PLAYING WITH ONE OF THE BEST POINT GUARD IN THE LEAGUE

SHAQ WONT HAVE TO DO MUCH BECAUSE HES SURROUNDED WITH TALENT I KNOW YOU LAKER FANS ARE IN DENIAL RIGHT NOW BECAUSE HE LEFT LA AND WON A CHAMPIONSHIP IN MIAMI AND NOW HES IN PHX WHO BY THE WAY KNOCKED LA OUT THE 1ST ROUND FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS AND NOW SHAQ CAN POSSIBLY WIN ONE IN PHX !LOL HAVE FUN WATCHING SHAQ PROVE THE WORLD WRONG LOL

  • 8 mile says:

that trade is terrible. shaq can’t run. the phoenix suns never go at a slow pace even in the half court offense. shaq isn’t the force he once was. with shaq, phoenix won’t be a run and gun team. phoenix seems to have given up on their identity. they now think that fast, finesse basketball doesn’t equal NBA Championships. Phoenix had the best record in the West but now, it could be the Mavs, Hornets, Lakers or the Spurs.

  • el travieso says:

you said it: just wait… one championship with the old fat and out of shape..shaq would be better than 10 season with the anger of being just a good team that never goes to the finals!!

  • the_poncharia says:

The reasoning for the trade from what I’ve heard is strictly defense. They want a big man in the middle who can alter shots and play tough in the latter rounds of the western conference finals. With the west, you have Bynum and Duncan in the middle who can post and score in the half court set. As much as I hate to admit it, the Lakers will be a force to deal with the addition of Gasol. That is the reasoning for the trade, to match strength inside.

Was it a good trade? Will they improve defensively? That all depends on Shaq and his aging fat body. When it comes to the regular season, it will not improve them much. He won’t be running with the Suns because he just can’t. They’ll probably give him about 25 a game to get his feet wet and to work into the Suns offense more of a half court game which they will need in the playoffs. He will be a force even at his age now in the playoffs, that is if he can stay somewhat healthy.

I think the trade will cost the Suns and it is a big gamble. You lose a terrific defender who can block shots and rebound. Marion was very versatile and could defend the 2-4 spots if needed. He was never the dominant defensive presence as Shaq was at one time in his career but did alot of things that went un-noticed. I’d love to see this work and would love to see the Suns and Lakers going head to head with the Kobe/Shaq ingredient. I just don’t believe he can stay healthy and make a difference.

I think looking back at this in a year, the Sun’s front office will regret this and regret the $40 million salary sitting on their payroll. Who knows, maybe the dry dessert heat will turn Shaq into a force! Not likely.

  • mjn@home says:

The Suns will either win big with this trade or lose horribly. Shaq does have more motivation now to play but injuries would hinder the expectations. It was a gamble but the fact the Marion was fine going to a 9-36 Miami proved he only cares about the money in the first place. It improves the suns chemistry for sure.
I do not think that the suns were going to win with their previous roster and Shaq is only at 11 percent body fat whis is pretty good for him as well.

  • scorer says:

Bad trade for the Suns. He is overpaid and too slow and broken down. Shaq was one of the greatest centers in NBA history but his time has passed. They gave up too much in Marion for him. They probably were not going to win it anyways, but for sure now, there will be no rings in Phoenix.

  • PistonsSuck! says:

    it was a bad trade.
the suns were already doing good without shaq.
shaq cant keep up with the suns offense.

  • megapimp02 says:

I’m a biased Warriors fan, but IMO it’s the worst move the Suns could have possibly made! Do you expect the now aging big Shaq to run and gun with other run and gun teams?

There are IMO 2 possible outcomes..Shaq turns into a bench player.

    or.

The Suns turn into a half court team. A horrible move for a team built around offence.

And don’t give me that they got him purely for defence BS…even if true, he still has to make it back in transition and the more he plays the slower he’ll get.

  • Sam says:

it is a pretty stupid trade

  • P J says:

    They are decent offensively

    Offense is never the problems

    its the defense

The suns are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league…now you take out Marion and put in Shaq who is fat and lazy, the Suns have even lesser rebounders on the team

On top of that Marion was their second best defender. With Bell aging, who are they gonna put on opposing scorers?

And if bell picks up 2 quick fouls, what are they gonna do? lol

Diaw and Barbosa are like butter…they’ll get creamed by opoosing scorers

This was an all around bad trade

Shaq won’t give the suns more than 20 minutes of effective basketball and it will suck up the shot clock just to get the ball to Shaq….which will result in less touches for others and mess up the floor spacing and rhythmg of the Suns’ run and gun style

    totally bad trade

Nash, Amare and Shaq won’t have a lot of sucess

Mike D’Antoni is a run and gun system wizard there is no way in hell he’ll know how to utilize Shaq in the post and use up like 20 seconds in the clock to get the ball to him lol

And Also the Suns are already one of the worst rebounding teams in the NBA…with Marion gone, they’ll be even worse!

Also Marion is their second best defender…if Raja Bell, who is aging, is in foul trouble or is injured, who do they put on opposing defenders? lol

Shaq doesn’t rebound…he’s fat and lazy

And also Amare complains about touches…so how are the Suns gonna accomodate two post players’ needs?

that is not their styel…the suns style is to run and gun and shoot the 3, not pounding the ball inside

The Suns are small, they have no length, they will get easily beat by Western opponents

this is poor move by Suns GM Steve Kerr…its a knee jerk reaction to the massive frontlinet the Lakers have put up with the acquisition of Pau Gasol

its not a great deal for the Heat either

well they get a good young poing guard in Marcu Banks to team up with Wade but Marion’s contract is expring…he’s gonna leave the heat who are rebuilding for a championship contender

the Suns window of opportunity to win a title just got slammed shut
